Fulbright Chair Professor John Stanfield Lectures at the Black’s Global Greens Conference in São Paulo

São Paulo, May 2, 2008 –  Prof. John H. Stanfield, Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Indiana University Bloomington, lectured at the Black’s Global Greens Conference about  two topics of current widespread interest: Urban Violence, and the U.S. Elections. Developed as an adjunct to the 2nd Global Greens Conference, which brought together in São Paulo from May 1-4 representatives of Green parties from around the world to evaluate the outcomes of the environmental resolutions and proposals from Eco Rio 1992 and the 1st Global Greens Conference, the Black’s Global Greens Conference fostered the discussion of the situation of the Afro-descendent population around the world.   More...

Warden Message on Dengue Fever

This Warden Message is to alert American Citizens living or traveling in Brazil to the increase of Dengue Fever cases in the State of Rio de Janeiro.  According to the State Secretariat of Health in Rio de Janeiro there have been 28,233 reported cases of Dengue Fever in 2008 which have resulted in 54 confirmed deaths and an additional 60 are suspected. These numbers would rival the last significant outbreak in 2002 when 288,245 cases of Dengue were reported which resulted in 91 deaths.   More...

Washington – Developing countries participating in liberal trade have enjoyed an average annual economic growth rate of 5 percent during the most recent wave of globalization from the 1990s to present. “China and Vietnam are two good examples of countries whose growth rates accelerated after they joined the WTO (World Trade Organization) and further liberalized their trade regimes,” said David Dollar.
